About The Home Guide Network
The Home Guide Network publishes four independent guide sites for homeowners: The Garage Guide, The Basement Guide, The Septic Guide, and The Well Guide.
Who We Are
We are an independent editorial team focused on home systems that most homeowners know little about until something goes wrong. Garage door springs. Septic drain fields. Well pressure tanks. Basement waterproofing. These are not glamorous topics, but they are expensive problems when they fail and preventable problems when you understand them.
We do not sell products, accept advertising, or take payments from contractors or service providers. Our only goal is to give homeowners the information they need to make confident, informed decisions.
How We Research
Every guide we publish follows the same process:
- Primary sources first. We start with manufacturer documentation, building codes, and agency guidelines (EPA, DOE, CPSC, NFPA) before consulting secondary sources.
- Expert review. Technical articles covering electrical, plumbing, structural, or mechanical systems are reviewed against licensed professional standards before publication.
- Cost data. All cost ranges are sourced from contractor surveys, industry data, and verified homeowner project reports. We update cost data annually.
- No affiliate pressure. We recommend products and services based on performance and value, not commission rates. Some links may be affiliate links, which are disclosed per our affiliate disclosure policy.
How We Maintain Our Guides
Home improvement information changes. Building codes update. Product lines change. Labor costs shift. We review every guide on a rolling annual schedule and update content when:
- Building codes or agency guidelines change
- Cost data shifts significantly from current ranges
- New products or methods emerge that change best practices
- Reader questions reveal gaps in our existing coverage
Each guide displays its last updated date so you can assess currency.
